"God made us for joy. God is joy, and the joy of living reflects the original joy that God felt in creating us."

Yarn Along et al
In an effort to prolong my son's life,
I am reading this again.
I am reading this again.
In an effort to prolong my son's life,
I am knitting.
a lot.
It calms me.

I finished another dishcloth,
but am now out of yarn.
Being a new knitter, I don't have a stash.
I want to make a hat.

I do have a stash of books, though.
What should I pick up next?

I am looking forward to going on retreat this weekend.
in beautiful Medora, North Dakota,
gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
with my husband.
without my children.
to recharge my batteries.
because I feel a lot like this lately.

The Boy
told me this morning he loves me more than Legos.
Wow! That's love.
That earned him some points with Mom.
and made me feel better.

Miss Rose and Miss Sunshine
cleaned my bathroom for me yesterday.
to surprise me.
They left me a note.
That's love, too.
and made me feel better.

The Baby's
new favorite thing to do when I'm cooking
is to set the table.
by herself.
on her own initiative.
Girls are so very different from boys.
Say "Cheeeeeese."
To see what others are knitting and reading,
visit Ginny at Small Things.
Stay warm,
if you live near me.
Stay in the house,
if you live somewhere that got dumped with snow.
Hug your kids,
if you've got some.
Live.
Laugh.
Love.

Who Needs Toys?
When The Boy was about The Baby's age, we were right in the thick of graduate school, before teaching assistantships and fellowships, and we were strapped for cash.
We wanted the kids to know something about the giving part of Christmas, too, however, so we took them to a dollar store and let them each spend a dollar or two picking out a gift for each sibling and Dad and Mom.
One of the best gifts one of the girls picked out for her little brother was a package of poker chips and some disposable tupperware. We cut a slit in the lid of the tupperware. The Boy spent hours putting the poker chips through the slit.
His sister now loves playing with it just as much as he did.

Creamer Funny

Since The Girls had dance tonight and my DH had to teach, we decided to celebrate The Younger Girl's birthday by going out to brunch.
You know those individual creamers they put on the tables? I have always given them, and the sugar and sweetener packets, to fussy babies to keep them busy in a restaurant. I've never had a problem doing this. Until today.
Guess what The Baby did? She figured out how to get that little container open with those four sharp little teeth and before we knew what was happening she was drinking the cream! I thought it was maybe a fluke, so I gave her another one -- she wasted no time chewing on it until she could get the cream out!
Better watch out for this one -- she's a smartie!
